We offer our sincere apologies for the inconsistent water temperatures you have experienced while using this facility. With such a highly activated and busy facility for our sport and recreation users, this concern is a priority to provide a permanent solution as quickly as possible. We have been able to identify two root causes of the hot water issues and wanted to update you on the status and timing of the repair project:
- Flow Control Valves. There are numerous control valves throughout the hot water piping within the facility. These valves ensure a consistent and equal flowrate to and from the central heating system. Upon removal and inspection of several of these flow control valves, we are finding many of them not operating properly, which has obstructed the reliable flow of hot water to the locker rooms. Replacement valves have been ordered, and scheduled to arrive on site on Monday, January 16. We expect installation of these valves to be completed by Wednesday, January 18.
- Mixing Valves – In most locations, there is a mixing valve located within each locker room ceiling. The mixing valves combine hot and cold water to produce a consistent tempered water flow to each shower system. REAL refurbished approx. 80% of these valves in 2022, however we have ordered new mixing valves to ensure a proper compliment to the new flow control valves being installed. Our plan is to complete step 1 above, then re-take temperature readings across the showers. We will then replace mixing valves based on the temperature readings.
By January 20, 2023, we expect to be clear of the hot water issues in the Co-Operators Centre.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these issues and solutions.
